Although we specialise in the care and protection of primates we cannot stand by and see other animals in need of help. You will therefore find wolves, a fox, horses, donkeys, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and others at our sanctuary. All are equally important members of our extended family. Just click on the pictures below to learn more about the different animals we care for.

Find our what we are about and see the differences between a sanctuary and a zoo.

about sanctuaries

When Southport Zoo’s lease expired and they had to close we took over the care of some of their animals iincluding Jason the chimp. Carole and Doug Petrie had looked after them really well for many years but could not get a zoo licence at their new premises in the Yorkshire Dales. They were however allowed to have a falconry centre which they now run with the same care and passion. Click here to see what they have achieved

We are a sanctuary, not a zoo. Our prime purpose is providing a good life for Unwanted animals
